چکیده

Male rabbits, aged 4.5 months, were subjected to graded total gamma irradiations of 0.5 Gy, 1.5 Gy, 2.5 Gy and 3.0 Gy with a dose density of 24 Gy/min. The genetic effects in spermatogonia were assessed 3 months later using cytogenetic analysis of chromosomal preparations. The data showed a dose-dependent increase in the frequency of reciprocal translocations, induced in spermatogonia and detected in the spermatocyte stage in diakinesis metaphase I. The highest frequency of reciprocal translocatins was observed in rabbits irradiated at 3.0 Gy. The dose-effect function was linear from the type y=a+βD.

Low levels of chromosomal mutations in germ cells derived from doxorubicin-treated stem spermatogonia in the mouse.

The mutagenic effects of doxorubicin (Adriamycin, ADR) on mouse spermatogonial stem cells were examined by analysis of spermatocyte chromosomes and of dominant lethality transmitted through the spermatozoa. The effects of ADR on mutations, cytotoxicity, and sperm head abnormalities were compared with those of radiation. The cytotoxic effect of 6 Gy of gamma-radiation on stem spermatogonia was e...

Tritium radiobiological effects in mammals: review of experiments of the last decade in Russia.

This review briefly describes techniques and basic results of experimental investigations in mice and rats on metabolism, dosimetry, and radiobiological effects of tritium oxide and some tritiated biogenic compounds (glucose, amino acids, and nucleosides) during the last 10 to 15 years in Russia. The content of water in tissue cells of mammals is shown to be 15 to 40% less than in whole tissue....

GENETIC EFFECTS IN SOMATIC AND GERM CELLS IN RABBITS FOLLOWING EXTERNAL GAMMA RADIATION II. Chromosome aberrations in peripheral blood lymphocytes

The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effect of gamma irradiation on the hereditary structures of peripheral blood lymphocytes and to quantify this in a dose-effect study. We used adult male rabbits subjected to total gamma irradiation at a dose range of 0.5 − 3.0 Gy. Twenty-four (24) hours later, we began the process of culturing and determination of chromosome aberration frequency ...

I-37: Genome Instability and DNA Damage in Male Somatic and Germ Cells Expressed as Chromosomal Microdeletion and Aneuploidy Is A Major Cause of Male Infertility

Background: Sperm chromatin insufficiencies leading to low sperm count and quality, infertility and transmission of chromosomal microdeletion and aneuploidies to next generations can be due to exposure to environmental pollutions, chemicals and natural or manmade ionizing radiation. In this project which has continued for more than 10 years and is unique in many technical aspects in Iran and in...

Nature and consequences of induced chromosome damage in mammals.

There are marked qualitative and quantitative differences in the patterns of chromosomal damage observed after irradiation of spermatogonia, spermatozoa and oocytes of mice. These differences often result from reduced or zero transmission of particular classes of abberration arising in pre-meiotic germ cells. Probably this is the reason why the level of X-chromosomal and autosomal monosomy is n...
